Home-Start Charity Says ‘Merci’ for Clothes
Times Square has stepped in to help recession hit young families by donating baby and toddler clothes to Sutton’s Home-Start charity.

The clothes were from a massive stock of stylish French children’s wear that was liquidated when a fashion shop in the shopping centre went into receivership.
Times Square has decided to sell off the stock to Sutton shoppers at more than 50% off the original selling price but has also earmarked several hundreds of pounds worth of clothes for Home-Start.
“The clothes are of a very good quality and through the efforts of Home-Start we know they will end up with the most deserving families,” said Centre Manager Noel Bergmann. “We feel very strongly at Times Square about helping local people and the Receiver in this particular case is supporting us, allowing us to give away some of the stock to charity and sell off the rest cheaply.”
Since 1984 volunteers from Home-Start have given free support, friendship and practical help to more than 3,000 young families in the borough experiencing isolation, anxiety and stress.
Dedicated volunteers visit families on a weekly basis to help with children, give parents a break, offer practical help and reassurance, support them in using local services and resources, give them the chance to meet other families in the same boat or to simply listen.
“We were absolutely delighted to receive these baby and toddler clothes for some of the families we are supporting,” said Marian Moss from Home-Start. “In these difficult economic times many families are struggling and this donation will brighten up their day.”
Times Square will be selling off the remaining stock of children’s clothes on Saturdays and Sundays on the ground floor.

The money was donated by our generous shoppers and it will help fund the charity’s hospital and rescue centre in Beddington Park, Wallington.
Established more than 10-years ago by Ted Burden, the hospital is the only specialised professional animal welfare charity in Greater London providing a free care and rescue service for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. It cares for more than 4,000 sick and injured wild animals and birds every year.
“There is a constant flow of wild animals that need rescuing or are brought in by members of the public and we are committed to caring for those animals,” said Ted. “But the Trust is ineligible for Government or Lottery support so we rely entirely on public donations to maintain a 24/7 service throughout the year – that’s in excess of £200,000.
“Times Square has been extremely supportive of our work and we are very grateful to the shopping centre for this latest donation and also for announcing that London Wildcare Trust will be its chosen charity in 2009.”
