Food competitionWIN A MONTH’S SUPPLY OF ULTRA-FRESH VEG FROM SUTTON COMMUNITY FARM

Staff and volunteer s from Sutton Community Farm are leaving the fields and coming to town this weekend, at Times Square Shopping Centre.

They’re looking for volunteers to help with a wide range of tasks at the farm in Telegraph Track, Wallington, this year – from sowing and growing to packing boxes for the farm’s hugely successful veg box scheme.

And they’ll also be holding a ‘Guess The Vegetable’ competition, asking shoppers to identify 10 different veg – with a prize of a month’s supply of ultra-fresh veg, straight from the farm.

“Sutton Community Farm is one of the area’s best-kept secrets, but we’re aiming to change all that,” said Anna Francis, Farm Manager. “We’ve already got 400 volunteers who come and work on the farm – now we want to spread the word so more and more people in Sutton realise the benefits of healthy growing and of loving local food.”

Sutton Community Farm will be at Times Square on Saturday February 11th from 9am to 4pm.

Times Square has teamed up with Radio Marsden to develop community broadcasting across Sutton is supporting the station's work in streaming its programmes online 24/7.

It means the volunteers running the station can not only enhance the hospital service - extending access to friends and relatives who are not able to visit patients personally at the world-renowned Royal Marsden – but provide a truly local radio station for Sutton.

The massive book sale will raise much needed funds for the charity which is appealing for donations of good-as-new books that it can sell on. If you can help please telephone 07753 374628 to arrange for the books to be collected.

“We have always done what we can to play an active part in the community and of course we are extremely proud that our efforts have been recognized by the South London Business Awards,” said Centre Manager Noel Bergmann.

The deal with Times Square allowed the station to install the latest online broadcast technology at its studio in Sutton’s Royal Marsden cancer hospital and to promote the station with regular events at the shopping centre.
